Black Friday Unbox and Take apart – Toshiba Canvio 500 GB Hard Drive

May 30, 2018 Jon 11 Comments

I went out during Black Friday and bought this Toshiba Canvio 500 GB External hard drive for my brother-in-law. His laptop needed a new internal drive. I saw this on sale and knew that I could take it apart.

I have the 1TB version, so it doesn't have one of those little boards connecting usb to sata. I want one of those though, do you have any idea where I might find one online?

That sounds like a good plan. Just open the sucker wide open and let's inspect what's inside.

How did you get it started? The seams on my unit are very tight and don't give me any space to wedge anything in between the two layers.
