Didn't Wash Hands Alarm

This project shows you how to make an alarm that will go off anytime someone forgets to wash their hands in the restroom. Small piezo sensors detect when water is moving through the pipes of the toilet and the sink. If someone uses the toilet but doesn’t use the sink, then the alarm will go off when they open the door to leave.

Awesome Dave thanks for the review. I think I may give it a go. I need some light use of a desolder gun and this looks like a good cheap unit that will work.

Looks like leaded solder on this board , lead free desoldering will prove a lot harder…

I've just received a later version of this, a DURATOOL branded ZD-915
This arrived today, and all seemed OK on initial switch on.
Element heated up, and temp could be changed.
However, when I pulled the trigger on the gun nothing happened (no pump noise). Checking continuity on the gun trigger to the connector showed that the switch was operating OK.
SO, the cover had to come off. All looking good internally, but when I looked at the connections to the pump, one of the wires was not connected (fell off when wiggled).
I have now repaired that, but I'm NOT impressed with the build quality.
The unit itself now works very well, I AM impressed with the functionality overall. Just the build quality lets it down.

Glad I watched. After purchasing this unit, mine didn't work either! I found one of the wires going to the pump motor had never been soldered to the motor terminal. Nice. I guess they ever test these units before shipping! LOL. Well, after fixing it the device works fine. Thanks for your review.

So, you wash your hands, then use a dirty germ ridden door handle… 😉

Could you do the same thing easier by just having a sensor in the door handle that detects skin conductivity? (wet hands = lower resistance)

What if when you're done someone get's done pretty quick, while you're washing your hands, wouldn't it go off when you try to leave?

I don't want to be racist but here, in Europe, we don't p**s or poo (no offence) in our hands!!! And we clean ourselfs every day so there is no bacteria on our private parts! Come on now!! I'm not british so don't make stupid jokes! Again no pun intended.

    this idea is absurd…
fails when we are talking about bathrooms that have more than 1 person using it at a time, or if someone doesnt flush -.-

Story an old friend used to tell:  A Navy guy notices an Army guy leaving a restroom without washing hands. Navy guy says "In the Navy they teach us to wash our hands after we p**s". Army guy says "In the Army they teach us not to p**s on our hands".

Actually, if that thing buzzed on me I would flush it down the freakin toilet.
