External Drive Image Not Showing On Mac

May 17, 2018 Jon 24 Comments

Is your external hard drive not showing in your sidebar on your Mac? I had the same problem and found a very simple solution.

I was on the verge of taking my external hard drive back to the store but I found a solution.

Most likely, you do not have your external hard drive preferences set correctly in you Finder.

I will show you how to make your external drive appear or disappear on your Mac.

Note- there are plenty of options you will find on internet for this issue , e.g.
1. Safe mode unmount
2.repair ext. hard drive in disk utility
3. FMC reset
when you try every above option and still have the issue, than this video might help you.

you will be able to mount your external hard drive and can use it like before.

Holy s**t it worked.. So my problem is that I connected my external hard drive and it did not show up at all. But when I disconnect it again, I get the error message in the right corner that I must remember to dismount/disconnect it properly.. Which is weird since I could not find it. And when I checked out this video I did as you asked, but on the list my external hard drive was already checked.. But for fun I tried taking away the check mark and checking it on again.. And it fkn worked.. Thank you!! Really glad it worked for me! Cheers from Norway

Fixed the issue for me! I have a Seagate Backup Plus 4TB, I uninstalled the NTFS program and it showed up right away in Disk Utility after. I gave up trying to format it for NTFS and just formatted it as MacOS Journaled, it's just easier for me to use it that way. Thank you!

Thanks so much Pratik this worked a treat and I had no idea about this option … as we know from experience with these matters and with technology, not everything works for everyone, it's a shame people feel the need to comment when it doesn't. And your delivery is just fine. Hope it's a good day where you are.

Outstanding. Ive been struggling  with this for weeks and I assumed it was a problem with OS X High Sierra. I have two 1 TB External disks for weeks and I was ready to toss them. I followed this video and both are working fine! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
