Tired of the default icons on your desktop? Here’s how you can customize your own. I used to frequently unplug the wrong drive until I started doing this.
Here are some of the drives I use often:
My favorite drive is the Hitachi G-Technology drive. These things are solid work horses and very reliable and sturdy. That being said there is no drive I haven’t had an issue with at one time or another – always backup data that you can’t afford to lose. Hitachi has excellent customer service and stands behind their warranty.

A close second and another favorite brand of drives is LaCie. Excellent products, excellent customer service.

And LaCie manufactures my favorite transfer drive the “Rugged Drive.” This thing is so solid that they have a video of one being run over by a car tire on their website. I haven’t put it to the test, but these things are very hardy.

For SD cards it’s hard to beat SanDisk or Kingston. You pay a little more, but the off brands can cost you in reliability. Check your camera’s specs to make sure you’re getting adequate write speed.

Same goes for CF cards.
Kingston 64GB CF card (266x)
USB thumb drives are a dime a dozen these days. I’d just go with the cheapest one you can find since these are mainly used to transfer data as opposed to storing or working data. That being said, I’ve had really good luck with Lexar.
