Restore a Mac Hard Drive from a Time Machine Backup

In this tutorial video, I show you how to completely restore your Mac from a Time Machine Backup. This is typically done if you’ve replaced a failed hard drive or if you’re upgrading to a new hard drive. I go through how to partition the new drive and restore everything from your backup. Note: this is only done if you’re restoring to the same computer the backup was from.

This should work the same way with all OS’s that have Time Machine which is Leopard and after. There might be some differences in the screens but the process is the same.

you tell people to do things but don't explain what they are. partition? what is that? why are you choosing the one you did? if you are going to make tutorials then every single step should be thoroughly explained.

I followed the instructions on the tutorial. Unfortunately it's not exactly what I wanted to do. Issue is this, in linking the external hard drive to time line . I lost all the files that I had on the hard drive. Is there a way of going back and undoing what I did and recuperate my files? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

what is the differences between the Journaled option and ExFAT? I want to import videos from my Mac desktop, but after its all imported I'm going to be using the external hard drive for my MacBook from here on out. Will Journaled be compatible for both my desktop and MacBook? Or is ExFAT better? I just bought the WD brand and it's my first time using any external hard drive.

Thanks, very well done. Great enunciation and attention to detail in magnifying the screen. I had a question if you get a chance. Either way, I subscribed and liked and will be watching more.

and now my 1TB external hdd can only be used as backup on my macbook air what a waste. It used to be a cross-compatible "media/movie drive" that can be both opened by macbook and pc.

If the time machine backup is from a previous OS sistem ( Lion for example ) and I'm on a El Capitan sistem now, will the back up downgrade the computer to Lion or it will copy only the information? Thank you!

I have having issues with the screen freezing, slowing down, and virus, spyware. Nonetheless, my PC’s efficiency has enhanced after making use of this good system utility for MAC “macvo unique only” (Google it). It truly does work as a speed booster, performance optimizer, and error scanner. Apart from scanning viruses, it may also eliminate them.

Is this effective against keyloggers? What if you actually RE-installed the keyloggers from your timemachine backup?? Is that a possibility?

Will this also install my apps on to a new hardrive that has had the OS re-installed? I have heard backups will restore files and folders but not apps like Adobe CS or Word, etc. Is this correct? I really don't want to have to re-install all my apps.
