Maxtor Basics Personal Storage *HOW TO* Remove Drive For Data Recovery

How to open a Maxtor Basics Portable Storage external USB drive so you can attempt data recovery.

The model featured has part number 9NX2A4-500 and the drive inside was a Seagate Momentus 5400.3 with date code 08206.

This converts to a manufacturing date of Wednesday 21 November 2007.

When connected to the PC the drive showed up, but could not be opened in Explorer.

Once the drive was removed from the enclosure all data was recovered – so as predicted in the video it was the SATA to USB circuit that was faulty rather than the drive!

still doesn't work. tried doing what you have suggested, where on disk utility you found the option to click on ur 1 tb hard drive, it only shows up 1 option macintosh HD. and if i click on erase for that it doesn't give me options to format. so basically this isn't really being recognised by my mac and its brand new

I followed your instructions and now it says the disc is not compatible with my device and won't even open…any advice?

Hey Guys, does anyone know of a file manager for mac that will sync with
the samsung m3 hard drive? I am looking for a file manager that will
allow me to add photos and files to certain folders on my computer and
then when I connect my hard drive it will automatically syncronise the
files so that they are both the same. Thanks for your time. Cheers!

I've been looking on amazon for a hard drive for my mac. The seagate 1 tb backup plus for mac and pc has caught my eye, it's a nice design but I've read a lot of negative reviews about it, i dont want to buy it and then crash. If not my second choice would be to get the samsung hard drive. Which one would recommend?
