    If not using some sort of RAID array, is there any benefit/downside to use
    a drive as a volume and not as a partition?

    +Anders Svarrer in your case i think those drives are simply not compatible
    with USB as not all drives are supported by it yet especially if they are

    1. Go to `my computer` and click `format`.
    2. In file system choose `exFAT`.
    3. Press `quick format` and done…

    hmm.. I only get the error message if I connect to USB 3.0.
    If I connect to USB 2.0 nothing is wrong, discs work and
    Totyally I have 4 external discs that behave same way, Two of them are
    totally new and formattet less than two weeks ago.
    The two old drives also got formatted two weeks ago.
